On Sunday 14 July 2019, Croydon’s Wandle Park became the focal point for the most colourful celebration of Asian culture, with music, dance, food, family fun and entertainment. More than 12,000 people from diverse communities revelled in the entertainment provided at Croydon Mela, which was curated by a team of local women led by Chetna Kapacee, and supported by media sponsors Sunrise Radio and Simply Bhangra. The event showcased the best of Croydon talent on the Dance Dhamaka stage and Rung Mela Zone, and top international music stars like Apache Indian, Najma Akhtar, and complemented by local artists including Stunflower and more on the main stage. The stage was also compered by the legendary DJ Ritu.

Chetna said: “It was fantastic to be able to celebrate the diverse south Asian communities of Croydon across the different stages and activities at the mela. It was a joy to see so many people of all backgrounds and ages having a great time.”
